ScholarshipsScholarship Information This page is set up to help identify places to look for scholarships. Remember that scholarships are a form of financial aid and any scholarships received may cause existing financial aid packages to be adjusted. The Office of Financial Aid (OFA) should be provided with the scholarship information, the amount of the scholarship(s) and the term(s) the scholarship(s) covers. The following list details several sources of information about scholarships for which you may wish to apply: Financial Aid Office Aid Bulletin Boards - The bulletin boards, located in the Office of Financial Aid (OFA) in B. F. Roberts Hall, have information about some private scholarships. Application materials for these particular scholarships may be available through the OFA. JSU Enrollment Management Office - Merit-based scholarships are awarded to new incoming freshmen and community college graduates based on requirements and applications submitted by the deadline dates. Contact the Office of Enrollment Management for more information. JSU Athletic Department - Questions about athletic scholarships should be directed to the appropriate Intercollegiate Athletics Coaches. JSU Music Department - Questions about music and/or band scholarships should be directed to the appropriate Music Director. JSU Major Department - The academic department for major programs may have information on scholarships related to field of study. JSU Development Office - Questions about outside scholarships should be directed to the Office of Institutional Advancement. Employers - Parents' employers may have scholarships available for dependents of employees. Churches, civic, public service organizations - Check with churches or any of the various civic organizations (e.g. MASONS, ROTARY, LIONS CLUB, Sororities, Fraternities, etc) to find out if they have scholarships available. (Note: most of these groups may require some sort of family affiliation with the organization.) Scholarship Scams - Many private scholarship search services provide sources of financial assistance for a fee. We do not evaluate those services. If you decide to use a search service, check its reputation by contacting the Better Business Bureau or your state attorney general's office. Public libraries - Public libraries often have many college financing resources available in their reference sections. High School Guidance Counselors - High school guidance counselors are an excellent source of information regarding scholarships which are generally restricted to graduating high school seniors. Bookstores - Bookstores often have large sections of materials dedicated to financing a college education and many of these references contain valuable scholarship information. Internet Resources - The amount of information about financial aid and scholarships on the Internet is growing rapidly. There are some World Wide Web sites in particular that contain very extensive financial aid/scholarship resource information.
